![]() Our choir celebrated its 15th year of performing for Brisbane audiences with a sell-out anniversary concert at the Metropolitan Motor Inn in Spring Hill on 15 June 2013. 'This is an important birthday for our Choir and it was terrific to be able to perform once again for our supporters, family and friends,’ said Karin Cheyne, Choir President. ‘We were joined in our birthday concert by local band and friend of the Choir, Eurotone Crisis.’ Karin Cheyne has been with our Choir since its early days in 1998 when it was first supported through a Brisbane City Council grant. 'There are only a handful of original members, including our musical director, Marina Aboody Thacker,’ said Karin Cheyne. ‘Last year she was joined by co-musical director Tim Smetham. With a constant stream of new members over the past 15 years, our Choir has moved from strength to strength.’ Our choir has members who all identify as and are proud to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex. ‘We are a community choir and one of the groups in Queensland championing the rights of GLBTI people,’ said Ms. Cheyne. ‘It is more important than ever we remind our community and government leaders of the tremendous value of a diverse, inclusive and accepting society.’ In 2011, our choir led a project bringing together 12 other choirs across Queensland to record a CD, ‘Songs for Queensland’, which raised $8,000 for flood and cyclone relief. Our choir not only performs in Brisbane but across the State and has toured to southern capitals and, in 2010, to New Zealand. ‘Next month, we will be in Hobart to sing with other GLBTI choirs from across Australia at the Out and Loud festival, which will form part of Tasmania’s Festival of Voices,’ said Ms. Cheyne. ‘The biggest tour yet for the Choir will be in mid 2014 when we travel to Ireland and the UK to perform in Europe’s largest gay choral festival, Various Voices.’ For more information about joining the choir, visit here or contact us.
