The Death of Kings performs at the VISY Theatre, Brisbane Powerhouse on Saturday November 29th at 7pm as part of World AIDS Day Awareness Week. For tickets visit: www.brisbanepowerhouse.org/events
Following successful seasons at the 2014 Sydney Mardi Gras and the International AIDS Conference in Melbourne, the play will be shown to highlight the struggles of the Australian gay community in the early 1980s as a result of HIV/AIDS.
Queensland Positive People Executive Officer, Simon O’Connor, said that he is excited to bring the play to Queensland.
“Over the past three decades we have made significant gains in the fight against HIV in a relatively short period of time,” he said. “Undeterred by its challenges, we have continued to tighten our control of HIV and diminish it from being a certain terminal illness into a chronically manageable one for a majority of Australians.
The Death Of Kings is built on interviews that occurred throughout 2012, and tells the story of a diverse group of Australian gay men dealing with the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s.
