![]() At Brisbane’s Pride Fair Day in 1998, a new choir took the stage for the first time. Our choir’s first outing not only thrilled the Fair Day crowd but started a vibrant group that has become an important part of the local LGBTI community ever since. ‘We are delighted to be performing on the main stage at Pride Fair Day during our 15th anniversary year,’ said Karin Cheyne, Choir President. ‘Hundreds of singers have performed with the Pride Choir since our early days, singing with us in Brisbane and around Queensland and other parts of Australia.’ ‘Our repertoire for the Queensland Pride Concert on 20 September as well as our performance at the Fair Day in New Farm Park will draw on highlights from our choir’s history,’ said Karin, ‘such as when we sang in the massed choir with k.d. lang in 2002 when she performed for 40,000 people in Sydney at the Gay Games. Another high point was our recent tour to Hobart where we performed with all the other Australian LGBTI choirs at the 4th Out and Loud Festival.’ The concert on 20 September will feature a surprise guest performer, who the Choir will only reveal on the night. ‘Like any birthday party, we wanted to include a surprise,’ said Karin Cheyne. ‘Tickets are selling fast and I would encourage everyone to purchase seats for our 20 September concert in the next few days.’ The Choir has invited three newly-formed choirs to sing at the Queensland Pride Concert; the Sunshine Coast Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir, the Brisbane group, HotMale and a new youth chorus within the main choir called Young Pride. Joining the four groups will be dynamic piano player and singer Mary Jane Carpenter. The Queensland Pride Concert is on Friday, 20 September at the Brisbane Arts Theatre. Tickets are on sale now through our website.
