CONCERT ON INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA

21/3/2014

Over the past two months, singers from our choir have been learning new repertoire for their concert, ‘My Country?’ to be held at the Queensland Multicultural Centre on Saturday, 17 May.

‘We decided on staging our concert on the International Day against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia to raise awareness of the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and intersex people in Australia and globally,’ said David Hardy, Choir President. ‘Through our performances we tell the stories of our lives and advocate for change and equality. This year we are particularly promoting the rights of same-sex couples to marry.’

The concert is as an evening of Australian and Irish music, and will feature the Pride Choir as well as local band, Eurotone Crisis and singer/songwriter, Mary Jane Carpenter.

Following the 17 May concert, our choir will tour Ireland and the UK in June to perform at the Various Voices Festival in Dublin.

‘This is the third time singers from the Choir have performed internationally,’ said David Hardy. ‘In 2010, we travelled to Auckland for the Out and Loud Festival of Australian and New Zealand GLBTI Choirs, and in 2012, several of us performed in the Australasian Choir at the US GALA Festival in Denver.’

The ‘My Country?’ concert is on Saturday, 17 May 2014 at the Queensland Multicultural Centre, 102 Main Street, Kangaroo Point. Tickets are priced at $30 (adult) and $20 (conc.) and are on sale here.

Additional Information:

The Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir is a non-auditioned choir, open to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, intersex, queer and straight people who love to sing.

The Choir rehearses every Tuesday evening at the New Farm Library meeting room, 135 Sydney Street, New Farm. The next (Semester 2) intake for new singers begins on Tuesday, 8 July.
