Brisbane Pride Choir scholarships help remove financial barriers for singers who are passionate about music but may need support to participate fully. Scholarships can assist with membership fees, uniforms, music, workshops, training programs, and even travel for festivals.
By investing in dedicated choir members, these scholarships encourage musical growth, strengthen our community, and ensure that talented voices, regardless of background or circumstance, can continue to thrive with Brisbane Pride Choir.
If you’d like to support the choir by funding a scholarship, please contact our Treasurer, Dave, at

The Ajax James Scholarship
Ajax James was a much-loved member of Brisbane Pride Choir. They sang with the Basses and served as our dedicated Gig Coordinator, bringing joy to World Pride in Sydney and giving countless hours to the choir and community. Ajax passed away in 2023 from a medical episode, and we were heartbroken to lose them.
Following their passing, Ajax’s family made a generous donation to the choir. With their support, we established the Ajax James Scholarship, which helps make life a little easier for the choir member selected each year, enabling them to remain part of our vibrant choir family, surrounded by love and encouragement.
This is a fitting tribute to Ajax, who was known for their deep care for family, friends, and community. They believed in supporting one another and spreading love in all aspects of life. We are honoured to continue that spirit by sharing this support within our choir community.
The Scholarship includes up to one calendar year of membership fees and a choir t-shirt.
Applications are open for the first three weeks of March. If we receive no applicants or the scholarship becomes vacant for the second half of the year, then applications will re-open again in August.
Applicants can be nominated by a friend, a family member, another choir member, or can self-nominate. Applicants need to:
- Identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community and;
- Have been a member of the Brisbane Pride Choir for the semester prior to applying.
Applications will be considered – and held in confidence - by two elders of the choir, Barbara Sullivan (altos) and Deborah Pennington (sopranos).
Please email nomination for this scholarship to Barbara (barbara.sullivan4005@gmail.com). In this email tell us who you are and include a short statement in support of your nomination (whatever you wish to disclose).
The Ajax James Scholarship is a confidential award. Nominations will only be seen by Barbara and Deb and will not be disclosed to anyone else. The name of the person selected to receive this scholarship will be disclosed to the Pride Choir President and Treasurer and will not be publicly announced.
